Campaign naming conventions

Define a consistent structure for campaign names across email, SMS, social, and other channels — so every save builds a predictable name from your data.

Step-by-step guide

Where to find it

Go to Settings and scroll to the Campaign Naming Conventions tile.

Auto-apply vs manual

A checkbox controls whether the convention runs automatically whenever you create or save a campaign:

  • Auto-apply enabled — On each create, save, or update, Access Audience applies your naming pattern by default. Drag-and-drop moves on the calendar that change dates also refresh the name when auto-apply is on.
  • Auto-apply off — Campaigns save with whatever name you enter. Use the Apply convention action in the campaign editor when you want the template applied. That takes one explicit step per time you want the convention.

Per campaign type

You define a separate pattern for each campaign channel type — email, SMS, website, social, Meta Ads, other, and so on. Each type can mix static text, dynamic variables, and transforms differently.

Variables, transforms, and syntax

The builder lets you insert dynamic pieces — for example scheduled date parts (month abbreviation in uppercase, day, four-digit year), the static "name" field from the campaign, audiences with combined volume, and channel-specific values like type for SMS (renders as "SMS"). You can also apply transforms that adjust how values display.

When multiple audiences apply, choose a custom separator between their names (for example + or commas) so the composed title stays readable.

In the campaign editor

With auto-apply on, changing the campaign (dates, static name dimension, audiences, volume, etc.) updates the generated name on save. The editor shows how each part of the convention maps to the final string.

Use Manual override when you need a one-off name that should not be overwritten. With override enabled, saves will not force the global convention onto that campaign. Without override, auto-apply will continue to reshape the name from current field values whenever you update.

Choosing a mode

Auto-apply works best when you want every campaign to stay aligned with the template without extra clicks. Turn it off if your team often needs custom titles and only occasionally wants the convention applied via the manual button.
