Audiences & Segments
Adding segments
There are three ways to add audience segments into Access Audience — manually, by syncing from Klaviyo, or via CSV upload. Segments are organized by channel, so make sure you're adding them to the correct one.
Step-by-step guide
Before you begin
Segments are organized per channel (e.g. Email, SMS). If you don't see a segment when building a campaign, check that it was added to the correct channel under Audience → Segments.
Method 1: Add manually
Navigate to a channel, then go to the Audience tab → Segments tab. Click to add a new segment and fill in:
- Segment name (required) — The display name for this segment.
- Segment ID (optional) — An external identifier if you want to reference the segment in other systems.
- Link (optional) — A URL to the segment in your ESP or data platform for quick reference.
Method 2: Sync from Klaviyo
If you have the Klaviyo integration set up, click Sync from Klaviyo in the Segments tab. This will pull in all segments and lists from your Klaviyo account into the current channel automatically.
Method 3: CSV upload
For bulk imports, go to Data → Upload, select Segments as the object type, choose the target channel, and upload a CSV file. You will then map your CSV columns to Access Audience fields:
- Segment name (required) — Map to the CSV column that contains your segment names.
- Segment ID — Map to a CSV column or set a static value.
- Link — Map to a CSV column containing segment URLs.
- Active status — Map to a true/false column, or leave unmapped to default to Active.
Each field can be mapped to a CSV column or set as a static value. Once mapping is complete, click Upload and Import to create the segments.
Tips
- If you use Klaviyo, the sync method is the fastest way to get all your segments in — one click and they're imported.
- CSV upload is best for migrating large segment lists from platforms that don't have a direct integration.
- Remember that segments are channel-specific. If a segment should be available for both Email and SMS campaigns, add it to both channels.
